Becoming Tom Thomson had its world premiere at Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival in September 2022 where it received the Outstanding Northern Ontario Short Film Award.
It also won the Allegra Audience Choice Award for Best Short Film at the Milton Film Festival in January 2023. During the festival, artwork from the film was on display in the FirstOntario Arts Centre - Holcim Gallery.
The film started its limited theatrical run in Stratford, Ontario followed by a special screening in IMAX on Earth Day at Science North in Sudbury.
It was invited to screen at the Earth Film Festival for school groups as part of a fund-raising event held by The Grey Sauble Conservation Foundation
